As pedestrian safety continues to be a top priority for cities across British Columbia, Campbell River is stepping up with the installation of four new flashing crosswalk beacons — a significant move to protect walkers and encourage active transportation throughout the city.

Crosswalk Beacons Improve Safety at Key Campbell River Intersections

Installed in high-traffic areas, these beacons are part of a citywide effort to reduce risk at key pedestrian crossings:

📍 ERT Road & Maple Street

📍 ERT Road & Evergreen Road

📍 Highway 19A & Dahl Road

📍 Highway 19A & Twillingate Road (Coming soon, pending pavement marker installation)

These rapid rectangular flashing beacons (RRFBs) are activated at the push of a button, alerting oncoming vehicles to stop and yield to pedestrians — a proven method for improving compliance and visibility in busy or low-light areas.

“Improving crosswalks encourages walking, improves safety, and promotes healthy lifestyles and community,”— Melissa Heidema, Transportation Specialist, City of Campbell River

JSF Technologies: Proud to Support Safer Crossings

At JSF Technologies, we specialize in intelligent traffic safety solutions — and we're proud to support Campbell River and other municipalities that are taking active steps to protect pedestrians. Our solar-powered, push-button activated beacons are designed to provide reliable, high-visibility safety improvements in all weather conditions, without the need for extensive underground wiring or costly grid tie-ins.

These systems are ideal for:

  • School zones

  • Multi-use trails

  • Residential crossings

  • High-speed corridors

ICBC Partnership Demonstrates Broader Commitment to Safety

The project was supported in part by a $26,800 contribution from ICBC, underscoring how local safety initiatives are often strengthened through provincial partnerships. When governments and stakeholders work together, communities win — with safer streets, stronger infrastructure, and better long-term planning.

A Safer, More Walkable Future Starts Now

Projects like this are more than infrastructure — they’re commitments to quality of life, public health, and community connection. At JSF Technologies, we believe that every crossing should feel safe and every trip should be accessible — whether it’s a walk to school, a run along a trail, or a daily commute on foot.

Let’s continue to light the way for safer cities, one beacon at a time.
