🚶‍♀️More Visibility. Safer Streets. RRFB Crosswalks Lead the Way.

The City of Chilliwack is stepping up for pedestrian safety with the installation of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) from JSF Technologies. These high-visibility, solar-powered systems are part of a growing initiative to support active transportation and protect residents of all ages on foot or bike.

What’s New in Chilliwack:

New RRFB Installations:

  • Thomas Rd at Promontory Pathway – Near high-traffic walking trails

  • Vedder Rd at Morton Rd – Key connector with heavy vehicle flow

These upgraded crossings now feature pedestrian-activated beacons with bright, rapid LED flashes—greatly enhancing visibility and driver response times.

Where They’re Going Next:

Chilliwack isn’t stopping there. Additional RRFB installations are planned for:

  • First Ave at Williams St

    • Located in a central residential area with nearby care facilities, churches, and low-rise housing. This intersection supports local foot traffic and connects pedestrians to downtown Chilliwack and nearby services.

  • Reece Ave at Williams St

    • A quiet residential intersection near parks, churches, and community gathering spots. It offers an important east-west walking route for residents, including seniors and families.

  • Tyson Rd at Mt. Slesse Middle School

    • A high-traffic school zone directly serving Mt. Slesse Middle School. This crossing supports hundreds of daily student commutes and is essential for safe access before and after school hours.

  • Yale Rd at Victor St

    • A busy urban corridor with transit access and small businesses nearby. This location connects residential areas to commercial zones and is a key route for both pedestrians and cyclists.

With 34 RRFB crossings now active across the city, Chilliwack is showing a strong commitment to pedestrian safety, especially near schools, parks, and busy community corridors.

Why RRFBs Matter:

RRFBs are a cost-effective, solar-powered traffic safety solution proven to reduce pedestrian-vehicle collisions. With the push of a button, pedestrians activate high-intensity LED beacons that flash in a rapid pattern easily recognized by drivers as a cue to stop.

These systems increase crosswalk visibility—especially in high-speed, high-volume, or low-light conditions.

A Vision for Safer, More Active Communities:

JSF Technologies is proud to support Chilliwack’s efforts to build safer, more connected communities. Whether walking to school, biking to work, or accessing local businesses on foot, RRFB crosswalks make active transportation a safer choice.
